Have we mentioned how much we love spring here at Peoples Flowers? If not, allow us to say it again for the people in the back: we love spring, not just for the glorious haul of seasonal flowers it brings us, but because we too share in a sense of renewal and the idea that a new year is finally unfolding. Of course, our flowers go a long way in helping us keep up that spirit. Spring’s crop is not only beautiful but fragrant, and the fragrance is a crucial part of keeping the mood light and uplifted.
We design with many things in mind, and we’ve talked about a lot of them in our blogs, but we want to focus on fragrance here. Our olfactory sense is powerful (just ask the scientists), and we often link moments and people with smells. In other words, we create strong associations through our sense of smell, so it makes a lot of sense to pay attention to what we’re smelling. In the case of flowers, that’s the aroma of fresh, blooming, living things, as well as the particular (and often rich) aromatics of individual flowers. We love to combine different blooms to coax an appealing scent from them, or, in the case of our Lilies and Lemons, to combine one flower with citrus.
We can describe the bright, refreshing scent of this winning combination, but you really just have to dive into it yourself. A vase is filled with fresh-cut lemons from which a bevy of yellow lilies and button mums unfurls. The result is both a delightful look and a delightful scent. You’re welcome.
