There are few things more serene than relaxing in your own yard on a lazy afternoon. A backyard haven of lounge chairs, a beverage of choice, and serenity - sounds perfect, doesn't it? Make this peaceful day even more idyllic by encouraging butterflies to join you - which is as simple as adding several lovely flowers to your yard deck or patio. Bees & butterflies congregate in gardens that both support the ecosystem and infuse color to your natural space - and Peoples Flowers is here to assist you in cultivating the plants and flowers that will beckon these industrious and beautiful creatures. Do We Really Want Bees? The honeybee population is in critical decline worldwide, and here in the US, nearly 40$ have disappeared.  Bees are paramount to the ecosystem, especially in food production. Contributing in even a small way to encourage the bees to thrive is important - don't worry. Experts say that when collecting nectar and pollinating, bees will rarely sting unless harassed.  Read More about Inviting Bees & Butterflies to your Yard

Fourth of July Flowers & Celebrations

By peoplesflowers on June 21, 2017 in Flowers, Fourth of July. 0 Comments

The first Independence Day took place on July 4th, 1776 - although at the time, no one really knew about it. In fact, John Adams had proclaimed that July 2nd would be our nation's birthday, and with the exception of John Hancock's famous signature, most founding fathers would not even sign the document until August 2nd. Still, the date on the Declaration of Independence is July 4th, and so that is the day we celebrate! From coast to coast and throughout Albuquerque, people will attend picnics, parades, parties, and fireworks displays, all to commemorate the special freedoms we enjoy here in America. Fourth of July flowers are the perfect way to add patriotic spirit to your backyard barbecue or to thank a veteran for their service. Peoples Flowers is proud to continue our tradition of providing our friends and neighbors in Albuquerque with the beautiful bouquets and arrangements that make every occasion special. Designing Memorial Day Flowers

By peoplesflowers on May 18, 2017 in Flowers, Memorial Day. 0 Comments

Memorial Day has been recognized since the year after the Civil War ended, named Decoration Day until it was named an official holiday in 1971.  If you would like to have flowers delivered to the loved ones of a fallen soldier - or send an appropriate floral arrangement to a grave site - you can rely on the team at Peoples Flowers to design Memorial Day flowers that are both patriotic and poignant. Poetic Flowers: After World War I, the holiday would be associated with the red poppy, thanks to a poem written by John McCrae, a soldier and medic who wrote his verse to memorialize his experiences in battle. In Flanders Fields remembered the scene of red poppies growing among the soldier's graves. "In Flanders fields the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row..." The red poppy has endured as a lasting symbol of the day although in modern times, a faux flower is usually passed out by churches and benevolent societies to be worn on a lapel.
