A bouquet is a classic gift.
We’ve all heard mother-in-law jokes, but there’s at least one very big reason to be grateful for your mother-in-law. If it weren’t for her, you wouldn’t have your lovely spouse in your life. That alone is a great reason to celebrate Mother-In-Law Day on Sunday, October 28.
Guess what? The majority of mothers-in-law actually get along just fine with their daughters-in-law. A survey by ThirdAge last year checked in with 1,868 mothers-in-law and 2,000 daughters-in-law about what they think of each other. The survey found more than 60 percent of of mothers-in-laws consider their son’s wife to be a friend, the right woman for their son, or like a daughter.
We already have a Mother’s Day, so why do we have a day for mothers-in-law, too? Mothers-in-law often get overlooked by their daughters-in-law and sons-in-law on Mother’s Day. Mothers-in-law are often there to watch the kids when you need them. They can be a great source of wisdom. They may be the one person in the world who knows your spouse as well or better than you do. So let’s raise a cheer for mothers-in-law and celebrate them on October 28.
Show your Appreciation
If you haven’t celebrated Mother-In-Law day before, now is a great time to start with making it an annual family tradition. Since Mother-In-Law day isn’t as widely known as Mother’s Day, you’ll likely be giving your mother-in-law an unexpected and delightful surprise when you give her flowers or a gift. If you already have a good relationship, it will make your bond even better. If you’ve maybe had a few rocky places along the way, it will help smooth things over for the future.
Flowers are a classic gift. It’s hard to go wrong with any bouquet, but it’s especially sweet if you take the time to select flowers that are meaningful for her. If you’re not sure where to start, try to sneak in a word with your father-in-law. Your spouse may also remember if she has a favorite flower. Use this as the centerpiece for a beautiful bouquet.
