Celebrating Administrative Professionals Week
Although the day we celebrate on April 27 was originally named “National Secretaries Day”, it has undergone many name changes to reflect the evolution of society and workplace dynamics. In the year 2000, the day was renamed National Administrative Professionals Day. This title more accurately expresses the level of importance of these employees to our organizations, and to the economy. Without our administrative support personnel, we would probably be lost.
These are the members of our team who greet our clients, arrange our meetings and keep our schedules straight. They are often the first face our customers see, the first voice they speak to, and their first line of communication when they have a problem. With a calm demeanor and efficient personalities, they manage all that a day at the office entails; and in the process make everyone’s job easier. Although they don’t always get the recognition they deserve, on April 27, you have the opportunity to make sure that they do.
Although not a holiday on the calendar, National Administrative Professionals Day is celebrated across the United States, as well as around the world. It is not only a day set aside to appreciate the people you work with; but the International Association of Administrative Professionals, the organization behind the day, also promotes continuing education opportunities, interacts with professionals around the globe, and establishes standards of excellence.
