In honor of Mother's Day, Peoples Flower Shops asked one of our floral designers---who also happens to be a mom---to share her experience and also her expertise when it comes to selecting the perfect flowers for mom this May 13.
Name: Heather Henderson-Rivera
Child's first name and age: Kyleigh Ann Rivera, 22.
How did you get into floral work?
My mother, Marietta, moved out to Albuquerque, New Mexico with my father in the mid 1960s. She became employed as a day surgery nurse at a local hospital. As an outlet and a way to artistically express herself when not working as as nurse, she volunteered at a flower shop. I always thought as a kid (and into adulthood) how neat it was of her to go help out at the flower shop and design flowers. To this day, my mother is an incredible artist. Her forte is watercolor painting. While attending college and studying to become a social worker, I followed in my mother's footsteps and volunteered at several flowers shops. Through volunteering, I found my passion! It gets in your blood. Read More about The Mother Of All Days »
At Peoples Flower Shops, we know how healing flowers and plants can be. We spend our days with them, and we're knowledgeable about all the studies that point to their benefits. We observe them make people happy day after day, and we don't mean just the recipient of a flower gift. We see how happy both the giver and the receiver are in a flower exchange, and that, friends, is exactly why you should be giving flowers to yourself. Read More about Pretty Flowers For You »
Not every occasion calls for an exact flower design---sure, we have poinsettias at Christmas, tulips for spring and roses for Valentine's Day, but at People's Flower Shops, we know that there are a dozen meaningful flower exchanges that are personal to the people involved for every one of those expected flower exchanges. And sometimes, it's these that are our favorite. We love to see how people style the transactions unique to them. Read More about Giving Flowers And Plants That Matter »
Yes, we at Peoples Flower Shops said it. You can send roses for Veterans Day. Hear us out.
The venerable occasion we celebrate every November 11 or thereabouts doesn't have a designated flower. And yet, on this day, when we as an Albuquerque community come together to honor our heroes through parades and observances, the accompanying decor is definitely emblematic. We wave flags, we wear uniforms. Why not add an official flower? One that we would all agree is triumphant, dignified and elegant? Read More about Roses for Veterans Day »

If ever there were a time to decorate with the colors of a New Mexico desert at sunset, the time is now. Halloween designs and spooky decor have happily invaded our homes and yards, where spiderwebs, swaying ghosts and fake cobwebs rule the roost. Even our doorsteps have been revived with bright with mums and pumpkins. We here at Peoples Flower Shops think its the moment to turn our attention to how we'll decorate indoors. And of course we've got the blooms to do it.
Finally we can inject a little whimsy and humor to our floral designs - not to mention a little spookiness here and there too. Read More about Halloween Designs and Spooky Decor »

Peoples Flowers has been in town for almost 75 years, and we like to think that we are as much of an Albuquerque tradition as the festival.
We join our friends and neighbors in celebrating this amazing event which our community proudly hosts each year. Read More about The Colorful Wonder of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta »
In 1958, Patricia Bays Haroski had an idea which she felt would bring employers and employees closer together. As an employee at State Farm Insurance in Chicago, Haroski felt that her boss, and other bosses like him, deserved recognition for all of their hard work and dedication. Four years after filing her idea with the U.S. Department of Commerce. Illinois governor Otto Kerner made the day official.
Fun Fact: Haroski's boss was her father, and National Boss's Day is observed on his birthday. (October 16)

Before electricity and central heating were common comforts, couples moving into a home would host a gathering of friends and neighbors with one goal in mind - collecting gifts of firewood. The firewood was necessary to keep their homes warm during their first winter, making these parties literal "housewarmings". As progress happened and amenities were modernized, these get-togethers eventually evolved into opportunities for family and friends to congratulate their loved ones on the purchase of a new residence - or for people to make a new family in their midst feel at home.
Peoples Flowers has floral designs, flowering baskets and green plants that are guaranteed to warm the hearts of anyone who receives them. Read More about Plants & Flowers to Welcome New Neighbors »
