The Colorful Wonder of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

Albuquerque Balloon FiestaIt seems that every town in America has a special event or tradition they love to celebrate. But most pale in comparison to the sheer magic, color, and imagination of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Now in its 45th year, this world-renowned event has grown from humble beginnings, and enjoys a reputation as one of the premiere ballooning events in the world. Peoples Flowers has been in town for almost 75 years, and we like to think that we are as much of an Albuquerque tradition as the festival.

We join our friends and neighbors in celebrating this amazing event which our community proudly hosts each year. Continue reading

Boutonnieres and Corsages for the Dance

boutonnieres

Spring is here, and spring dances and proms are being anticipated all across Albuquerque. This is the time of year that Peoples Flowers creates gorgeous custom corsages and boutonnieres using the freshest florals, sure to add style and elegance to your ensemble. When it comes time to order, here are a few recommendations from the professionals.

boutonnieres

* We have pre-designed corsages, boutonnieres, and wristlets that represent our top selling varieties – but if you’d prefer a custom arrangement, let up know! Based on the style and color of the dress, we can make suggestions you may not think of – resulting in a truly one-of-a-kind corsage.
* Corsages are generally comprised of a few seasonal blooms, spray roses, or orchids, and decorated with ribbons, feathers, or jewelry.
* Nosegays are small handheld bouquets, similar to bridesmaid bouquets. Give us a color scheme to work from, and the Peoples Flowers team will design a beautiful hand-tied arrangement.
boutonnieres* Boutonnieres are usually designed with a singular flower, such as an orchid, calla lily, or rose. You may opt to use several smaller blooms, and decorative elements like ribbons and jeweled pins may also be used.
* Coordinate the floral color scheme with the dress (or tie, if applicable). Bring in a swatch so our experts can design a complimentary corsage. Remember – the flowers don’t have to be the exact same color as the dress!
* If you are buying a corsage or boutonniere and are unsure of the color, stay neutral. Whites, creams, metallics and black will generally coordinate well with anything.

Although wearable flowers and proms go hand in hand this time of year, corsages are also popular for other events such as graduation ceremonies and Mother’s Day.  Anytime you want to make someone feel as special as the occasion, call Peoples Flowers.  Our flowers are sure to make any day more beautiful.

Puppy Day Emphasizes Need for Adoption

puppy day

National Puppy Day was established by animal advocates who saw the need for awareness and education regarding the plight of puppies in the United States. It is estimated that only 1 in 10 puppies born each year will spend their full life in a loving family home. Instead, along with their adult counterparts, over 4 million canines will enter into the shelter system this year – a number that sadly, the system cannot accommodate. Organizers of National Puppy Day strive to inform pet owners of the problem, encourage puppy adoption, and help to significantly decrease the number of unwanted puppies born each year.

Did You Know? If you are an animal lover and would like to help, it is as easy as ordering your bouquets and arrangements from Peoples Flowers. Through our Helping Hands Program, you can choose to make a donation to Animal Humane New Mexico with every online purchase.  Continue reading

Game Day Decor – Cherry and Silver

game day

October is jam-packed with opportunities to get together with friends and family – whether watching the World Series or keeping up with our favorite professional football team, there are plenty of games to captivate us. By the end of October, professional basketball and hockey will start their season as well. If you are headed to someone’s home to watch the game, don’t forget to thank them for their hospitality with a great gift from Peoples Flowers.

A recent poll showed us that the most popular game day foods are pizza, wings, chips, and dip. While there is nothing wrong with those foods, we recommend that you take game day snacking to another level completely, with a delicious gourmet basket. Chocolates, meats and cheeses, fruit, and more arrive with plenty for everyone to share, and turn game day into a special event.

Here in Albuquerque, of course, we have another team to cheer on! The UNM Lobos are our very own team, and the cherry and silver logo is steeped in both history and meaning that speak to the special nature of where we live. The red cherry color was chosen to represent an Albuquerque sunset, and the silver is reminiscent of the Rio Grande appearing as a shimmering silver ribbon snaking through the valley. If you are invited to watch our Lobos play, take along a red rose design, and ask for a silver ribbon as well – it will be a beautiful way both to thank your hostess and to show your team spirit.

From the World Series to the Superbowl to March Madness and the Stanley Cup – sports bring us together. Make the gathering all the more special with gifts from Peoples Flowers.

Graduation Flowers

graduation flowersGraduation is a major milestone in a young person’s life. It means the end of one chapter or stage of life, and the entry into another phase of life. It represents the end of school – in the traditional K-12 public, parochial, or private school setting. If you’re like many families all over the country, it is also a time when family members come from near and far, just to celebrate this important and life-changing event.

As a parent or soon-to-be high school or college graduate, you may also want to have a party to thank the extended family members and friends for stopping everything to help the family recognize the graduate’s accomplishments, and celebrate the milestone. If you plan to let some of the out-of-town guests stay at your home, you may want to spruce it up a bit. There is no better way to make your home look special than with fresh cut flowers.

It doesn’t matter if the graduation ceremony is being held on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, or in the evening. At some point, you will probably want to have a special dinner or meal, or a buffet that can feed the countless people who want to drop in, and those who come to join you in celebrating this rite of passage.

When people put flowers on their dining room table, or on the serving tables and elsewhere in the house, everyone knows that they are doing so for a special occasion. That’s the message that flowers convey when they’re placed around the house as accents.

Orchids That Recognize Your Graduate

An Orchid Lei is meant to be a tribute to your son or daughter on their graduation. It lets them stand out in a special way. Choose between purple or pure white Dendrobium orchids.

Dendrobium Orchid Lei

An elegant wrist corsage with white Cymbidium orchids and delicate green accents is another way to honor your graduate. A graduation is just as appropriate an occasion for a corsage as a wedding or formal dance. A matching Cymbidium orchid boutonniere is equally fitting for the occasion.

Decorate the House With Orchids

Our elegant Mini Orchid Cube will look fantastic on a coffee table, an end table, or a bedside table in your guest bedrooms. Alternatively, if you’re having a large party and you’re going to seat the guests at one very long table or several smaller ones, this arrangement would make an unusual and sophisticated centerpiece. Line the cubes down the length of the table, making sure that every empty space is equal to the others.

Our Ornate Orchid Bouquet is another sophisticated, but unusual way to display Cymbidium orchid blooms. This arrangement is about twice the height of our mini orchid cube. It would look beautiful on a foyer table where your guests can see it the moment they enter your home. It is the perfect way to dress up a console table behind a sofa, or on a wall in your living room, or to make a fireplace mantel, the focus of a room.

Dress up your dining room table, or add an unexpected touch of whimsical creativity to a buffet table, or to other unadorned areas of your home with our Dendrobium Dance arrangement.

Celebrate your child’s graduation in style. Let Peoples Flower Shops help you make this high school graduation, an event to remember. Our experienced floral designers can help you choose the most beautiful orchid arrangements for all of your graduation festivities.

International Women’s Day is March 8th

friendshipp3This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is “Inspiring Change.” It is meant to recognize and educate others about the need for women’s equality, which has made great strides but still has a long way to go. This theme calls for challenging the status quo around the world and bringing change that provides more women with more opportunities and equal standing.

As such, International Women’s Day was created to celebrate all achievements made by women in the social, economic, and political environments. It is a great way to also call attention to those areas that require more action.peoples2 - Copy
